"It makes things much easier and simpler from a public education standpoint. Much time and money was spent trying to educate recyclers about the differences between bottle and non-bottle forms of plastic." - Phil Bresee, Howard County, Maryland "All plastic bottles have been collected in Delaware since our program began in 1990. In our promotional efforts, residents are told we accept items such as soft drink bottles, shampoo or detergent bottles, for instance. DSWA makes an effort to promote the drop-off of all 'narrow-necked plastic bottles' rather than using the resin code because it's easier for consumers to understand." - Rich Von Stetten, Delaware Solid Waste Authority "By concentrating on an 'all plastic bottles' message, there is less confusion for residents about what numbers to recycle and we are able to recycle more plastics." - Ruth Westfall, Grand Prairie, Texas |

Recycling programs vary by size, location, type of collection, materials recycled and budget. Educational and promotional materials are important elements informing residents about recyclables to be collected, how to prepare them for processing and market, and how to keep contamination to a minimum. To help recycling managers make informed, thoughtful choices when educating residents about collecting all plastic bottles, we have developed and assembled a number of resources to help implement a successful community recycling program.
Included in this section are many resources that can assist you when designing your program. Ready-to-use clip art, sample brochures for mailings, B-roll video footage showing bottles collected in the home for promoting your program on cable TV, public service announcements (PSAs) and other educational tools can be downloaded or ordered free of charge through this website.
